Posted by Csabo on 2025-08-25
Bard's Tale screenshotThe online JavaScript version of YAPE (YAPE/SDL) has just been updated. There are several improvements in this version, most notably G64 support. This means that if you were so inclined, you can play games such as the recently recovered Bard's Tale, right from your browser. Enjoy!

The Librarian 3!
Posted by Csabo on 2025-08-21
The Librarian 3 screenshotSo soon after the second part, another welcome surprise: RoePipi is back with The Librarian 3! The game series is now a trilogy, and the third chapter takes an unexpected dark turn. It's night time, and Zombies are attacking your little sanctuary of books, ready to devour the written word.

That's right, the game is a third-person flip-screen shooter! And what a game it is: I had the pleasure and privilege of testing it before release, and I can only try to relay the huge amount of fun I had with it. The sense of discovery, watching the creativity on display, enjoying the cleverly and beautifully rendered PETSCII graphics... Well, it's a RoePipi game, so you know what you're getting into, but it gets a very enthusiastic thumbs-up from me, be sure to try it out! The only complaint: it's too short :-)

Svellas!
Posted by Csabo on 2025-08-20
Svellas screenshotInufuto's new game, Svellas is here. If you've been faithfully refreshing his page for the past 10 days, you had to wait for 54(!) other 8-bit systems to go by before the Commodore 16 showed up. This is certainly impressive. Can you even name 54 different systems?

As for the game, it's been said that if you've seen one of his games, you've seen them all, and this one is no exception. It's very familiar, we've seen these graphics, we've heard this music, and we've certainly seen very similar gameplay. Perhaps that's a good thing! Nevertheless, it's well done for what it is; therefore it's worth a try.

Collect all the stars on each level to progress. The twist this time is that you can use "lifts" to move around between different sections of the maze. Avoid the ghosts! Enjoy!

Bard's Tale Archived!
Posted by Csabo on 2025-08-03
Bard's Tale screenshotToday, we put a period at the end of a very long story. We were talking about missing this release as far back as 2002, and many times after that.

The good news: thanks to Csory and siz, we now have a working version of Bard's Tale! It is a pair of D64 and G64 images, due to the B side of the disk having deliberate errors as a means of copy protection.

Only one thing left to do: load up the game and save Skara Brae!
