You can start ROM images from the first socket (Function Lo) only. The two function ROM sockets occupy the same bank. Obviously function lo is low ROM area ($8000-$bfff) and function hi is high ROM area ($c000-$ffff). If your ROM image is less than or equal to 16k then you can use function lo only. If the size is between 16k and 32k then you should use function lo and hi together. There is no way to put two independent ROM images into the function lo and high sockets.

JamesC. So I installed the NST monitor extension and it works great. I burned the second rom as Jackattack.
How would you start JackAttack? Or does NTS have to be modified to start it?
Confused.

Craftsman: the internal function software is hardcoded to reside at $8000, which is the lower ROM bank. Adding a ROM to an upper bank only will require at least one other ROM be changed as well, and would be supplied by whomever supplies the upper bank ROM.
The F1 key function (swap in the built-in software) is almost identical to the additional function ROM slot on the 128, other than the Plus/4 has 2x 16kb sockets rather than the 128's 1x 32kb socket.
Though the Plus/4 (and in theory the 128) can have additional ROM software through the cartridge port, and it appear on F2. This is how Script/Plus, Calc/Plus, and LOGO were released.... 3+1 would still be on F1, the other ROMs on F2.

My monitor (SIZmon3) can be put in place of the 3-plus-1 lo ROM too. (It can be activated by holding Esc during reset ). (I should publish the newer v3.2 version )

Let's also cite: Plus/4 Super Load, New-ROM and the one I would like to be able to try once a day NPE 10.

Thanks I burned NST's Monitor Extension.
It's pretty cool that the after the 3 in 1 software is removed it goes away from the start-up screen.
Is there a command or SYS that can be used to start the other eprom socket?

Good list, JamesC. NST's Monitor Extension (latest version released this year, has English documentation) is also meant to replace the 3+1. There's probably several other scene-produced software as well.

These can be installed in place of 3+1. If the file is 32kb, you need to split it at byte 16385 to make 2x 16384-byte ROMs."Low" code replaces 317053-01, "High" code replaces 317054-01. Word processor: Script/Plus Spreadsheet: Calc/Plus Graphic programming language: LOGO
Games - 16kb single ROMs to replace 317053-01. These will boot direct, making the Plus/4 dedicated to that game. Scott Adams Adventure: Atomic Mission Scott Adams Adventure: Pirate Adventure Scott Adams Adventure: Strange Odyssey Commodore: Jack Attack (joystick required)
Much more ROM-based software is on this site, though not all will replace of 3+1.

| Replacement of 3 in 1 software
Has anyone ever come up with any replacements for the 3 in 1 software.
Anything from spreadsheets, word processes, games and utilities?
