 "Project Nova", what a game!!!

Yesterday i got a bunch of games from England. Project Nova was in it, which i did not know yet. I immediatly fell in love with this game, because i am great fan of "Star Raiders" on the atari and "X-wing" on the PC. I love this "Look out of the cockpit", "Dog-fight in the space", "star-map", "repair the engine" and "Hypespace"-stuff. Very cool game!!!!

Agreed, Project Nova is awesome. I remember playing with it for a long time. I just checked its record and noticed that it has an end... Interesting!

If you're not already familiar with them, you should definitely check out the other games from the same programmer. They are all excellent, every single one. Man, those fellows in the "old days" sure knew how to program.

Re: "Project Nova", what a game!!!

I've never heard about this game before.
It is really nice one, with a good starfield effect.

But it is even more interesting, that this programmer (Moore, Mark J.), who made such a gems, like Magician's Curse and Escape from Zylon, how actively used a nice sprite emulation in his games.
I think even today (except some very recent releases from active and smart guys here), M's Curse is one of the best sprite sw-emulation, had foreground/background view, nice collision detection, and almost no color changes during movement. I suppose the 2-colored sprite is background and 3rd color, and all the rest (even the black background) is drawn with foremost color (1 or 2).
(In fact in Zylon he also demontrated sprite usage at the very beginning, but later only the nice collision detection was used out of that package).

About Project Nova: nice concept, good realization (especially in 16K), though the hunting and movement of the enemy is kind of annoying, not a real simulation. Music was also not the strenght of Mr.Moore. But all together 8/10.

Add Robo Knight to the list. This game was really amazing, not just to play but the whole look and C64 sprite goodness feel about it. A proper gem of a game for it's time 2nd only to the mighty Tom Thumb. wink
