Re: SD and MMC card reader

Wow, that IS interesting. I'm not sure about this after reading the article: does this work for a stock C64, or just for the super-CPU? If it's for the stock one, the it's doable on the Plussy as well, right?

What would be cool of course, is if we had an emulator for the Palm. Then you could write code on it, save it to your SD card and plug it into a Plus/4 straight happy

However, this is not new...
Looks sometimes here: http://www.jschoenfeld.de/news/news103_e.htm
...and this announcement is from December 2004 ! wink
However, this side has to offer even more:
- 8 Bit Baby
- Keyrah

Re: SD and MMC card reader

It's for a stock C64 and actually doesn't work well at all with a SuperCPU unless you disable the SuperCPU completely. I've almost stoped using mine for that reason. It works nice as a SID jukebox though...

Re: SD and MMC card reader

It's working with a default c64 you can get it also at http://www.protovision-online.de/
but forget it!! If you have time to wait another very interesting piece of hardware will be release hopefullly soon. Skern http://www.dienstagstreff.de/de/ditreff/profile/profil_skern.php3 from Dienstagstreff http://www.dienstagstreff.de/de/index.php3 demonstrated it on the last Willow Party http://www.willowparty.de/willow/index.html it's a serial (floppy/printer port) <-> IDE interface, where you can plug a c64/c128/c16/c116/plus4/vic20 to a default IDE harddisk. The price was caclulated about 20-30 EUR. I have seen a c64 with super cpu running running Metal Dust http://www.protovision-online.de/md/info.htm which was loaded from a harddisk. Just imagine a hardisk with all plus4 software on it - what else do we need?

Re: SD and MMC card reader

Indeed, why? You can get cheap MP3 players for a third of that price, and all the C64 does is provide power and an interface. You could probably do that with a ZX81 happy

Re: SD and MMC card reader

I saw it in action today with a real plus/4. It works! However, custom loaders will be a problem, especially because he is using a rather low-end PIC microcontroller. But even then it is very cool, and since the microcode is written in C, I may lend him a hand to accelerate the development.

Gaia: what do you have in your mind? A complete 1541 emulation in that box? That would be lovely!

Re: SD and MMC card reader

Yes, true drive emulation is on my mind wink But that is going to be near impossible because of the very tight timing requirements.... that PIC is running at 20 MHz and one has to emulate a whole computer almost (CPU, 2 VIA's etc...) Well, first the normal IEC routines should be done correctly. At the moment not even that is too reliable.

Re: SD and MMC card reader

How many custom loaders are there? is it worth it? Wouldn't a much better "first step" be doing a basic loader capable of loading from D64? (I assume .PRG files are easy).

Re: SD and MMC card reader

Of course first thing is to get it working on a basic level (which is actually done already). It might seem odd at first but it only works with D64 though at the moment. The developer has not even considered a directory based emulation yet happy
