 Green Beret

This is the second time I've started a thread about Green Beret on a gaming forum in the last couple of weeks. I've really got into playing the arcade and Spectrum versions. Someone told me there was a C16 version, which I never knew before. I've looked on this site, and I see that it gets 1.8 out of 10 in review scores. I could be mistaken, but that may well be the lowest score for any game on this site!
Is Green Beret really worse than Monkey Magic? Is it really that bad?
I could play it myself, but I'm not into emus, and the plus 4 ain't set up right now...

Yeah Spector
I remember that Green Beret was the worst game I'd seen on c16 ever! It was a real delusion, I'm quite sure it could be coded in a couple of days.

 Re: Green Beret

I agree with Luca, just the name alone got us excited as we knew what a cool game it was on the C64 or arcade machine until we got to play the C16 version!
Not even being one of the rare multi loading tape games will save it because believe it or not thats what it is!! (((SHOCKING)))

Yes Monkey Magic is better lmao! happy

 Re: Green Beret

I guess what brings it down is that we've seen Green Beret on the C64. At least I remember I did, back in the day. Oooh, how I hated those 64er bastards and their sprites.

Csabo, when I was very young, I passed HOURS counting sprites and bitmap colors from the Zzap!64 C64 game's screenshots.

 Re: Green Beret

Has it been released by alone, like Yie Ar Kung-Fu, or as compilation only, like Ping Pong?

 Re: Green Beret

Green Beret was released in 1986 through Konami's Coin-up Hits, along with Ping Pong and Hypersports. These three titles were sold together with Yie-ar Kung Fu. Green Beret was missing from the German version of the collection because it was banned in Germany. The rereleases of The Hit Squad weren't released until 1989, when there was a single rerelease of Green Beret.

 Re: Green Beret

Another bug in this program is that one level is completely missing.

The game consists of four different scenarios. Unfortunately, after level 1, level 3 was saved twice in a row. Level 2 is completely missing. Level 4 is the final level after it.

In the D64 crack (with German loader) a text was simply added to the level menu if you select level 2:

TEIL 2 IST NOCH NICHT LIEFERBAR
PART 2 IS NOT YET AVAILABLE

 Re: Green Beret

Green Beret is one of the earliest games (on C64) I played besides Robotron GDR Computer games. However Green Berets difficulty level was much too high for me. Never seen the C16 version, however it must have been bad when everyone joins the "chorus" here. I wasn't too fond on the C64 version either back in the days, however it was a game and my friends with "west contacts" just had a few games all in all.
