Re: Forthcoming new RPG game Are they AI generated? The first one says "SYNEGY"
A lot of forums have AI art banned completely. I wouldn't want to do that here, but in general, I would discourage everyone from using AI, IMHO it diminishes the value of human creativity.
Re: Forthcoming new RPG game Yes, they are mostly generated with AI. Now we could start a philosophical discussion, but I don't think anyone here wants that. The images aren't "signed" by me either, as is usually the case if you look closely. For me as a one-man group, it's not easy to be a coder and a graphican at the same time, especially when time is short. And you can see how stupid AI can be in some cases by looking at the error that, funnily enough, everyone saw except me. And it wasn't because I described the picture incorrectly. In my opinion, AI does not reduce creativity but rather craftsmanship.
I see it as support without which I would not be able to create a program of this quality at the moment. It remains to be seen whether the images will even make it into the game.
Re: Forthcoming new RPG game From my perspective, I think its ok to use A.I. as long you make it clear from the beginning. Of course most of us will prefer good old handmade games, since you see the human creativity and touch in it. But as you say, as a "one man band" you have to make compromises if you want to make your vision reality. I think things that connect emotionally to the user, like graphics and music, is most effective, when its made by humans. Code is not connecting, just a tool to make things happen, so here A.I can really help.
The use of AI is a philosophical question. The fact that AI generated the images should not mean that we don't need that game, for example... Maybe AI could be added to the credits, or we could use a "human made" logo like the Sarge, if everything was drawn by a human. I don't now, we are still learning this...
Re: Forthcoming new RPG game When I decided to "create" and release DVM Andrea Brown Drawn By AI, the idea behind was exactly this:"The whole matter starts here", a sort of philosophyc milestone. With "the matter" I exactly intended all the pros and cons – in ethics, morality, taste, creativity, society changes – which the usage of AI would have taken into our life in general, and in particular into the Scene.
After two years and a half from that release, the artists reacted by activating several tools online which defend their works from the monstruous hunger of the tti-AIs, like Glaze; or they reacted by establishing organizations targeted to open a debate about how much pressure the AIs perform over several forms of job, and about the limitations to AIs to predate the artists' works, like EGAIR in Europe.
Meanwhile, in the same range of time, the tti-AIs have completely changed their potential, gaining a preponderant position of power against the plain human creativity. Compare the picture I converted in the August of 2022 with those casual four which I literally did in SECONDS with absolutely no effort.
Obviously, the topic here looks like veeery large and articulate in so many paths, and this is not the right thread where to talk about it. I only wanna point out that, hey: here we are into it, we too are now, taking the glaring example of the Haegar's logo as a starting trigger.
Re: Forthcoming new RPG game First of all, I would like to apologize if something I said yesterday came across as a bit unfriendly.
@TRP - it's great that you're coming back to the game.
It's questionable whether I'll be able to incorporate any of the images into the game by the end of the competition. I think that, like with Bombtank, there will be a slightly revised version and then there will be one or two images. With the help of AI or without, I don't know yet.
I have nothing against AI except for it's name... I don't really think that the naming is correct. For me AI is something like SKYNET when it knows about itself that it exists. These chat programs and video/audio/image generating algos are "nothing more" for me than what they are, algos with immense databases behind them, not in any way they are intelligent. I think that by naming "them" so, people diminish themselves. It's good in marketing becasuse most people don't think about the real differences between these two very different things.
ON
A new production (game, demo, etc.) is always welcome, no matter the tools used.
Re: Forthcoming new RPG game The game looks really promising. I am happy to see more and more game with PETSCII gfx.
That bear looks tasty, what a big ham Would be nice feature to eat the fallen enemies to gain HP. But I will skip the zombie eater part, LOL (an old Faith No More song).
Re: Forthcoming new RPG game This really could have used a bit of proofreading and testing. The main screen says "AMOUR"... Hmm, maybe that actually means love in French. The main screen also says "PARRY"?... That must be "DEFENSE", that's how the game refers to that stat seemingly everywhere else.
I went into the shop, tried to sell my loot. For the Y/N question I may have pressed the wrong key, and the game just got stuck in an infinite loop with no way to continue.
Another minor thing, you may want to add a TRAP statement which switches back to the default font. That way when the game stops with an error, the user doesn't end up with a garbled screen.
Re: Forthcoming new RPG game I had actually already improved the armor thing. I just did it again. Luca had this bug in the shop too, but now I've figured it out, found it, and fixed it.
I'll submit an updated version right away.
If anyone finds another bug, please report it here.
- Need better input validation throughout: a very long hero name will stop the game with an error. A long hero name will break several screen layouts. - Entering -10 for speed initially allows you to max out all other stats. Negative values probably shouldn't be allowed. - Gambling with fractions leads to gold being "14.888888", which breaks some screen layouts. - You shouldn't get thrown out of the BAR, but the PUB - Pressing keys repeatedly on the troll bridge leads to ?OUT OF MEMORY error. - You find "AN" angry troll. - "You have found a dwarf cave. (?)ould you like to enter" -> probably Shift + W instead of just W. - Pressing "L" in front of the Oak Doors does something odd - haven't checked the code very thoroughly, but depending on a random number it just ends up asking for another key with no message at all. When the user does press something else, a "blank message" is shown momentarily. - If you don't have enough health but try to revive yourself, the game won't let you (should say "HEALTH" in the message instead of "HEAL" though). If you press any key at the next question (play from beginning) other than Y/N, you get revived anyway (with negative health).
Re: Forthcoming new RPG game Just tried the game, I like the whole concept and nice work implementing all of this in BASIC. Needs a little polishing, though. Probably not a lot of work to fix the bugs and review the English texts.
Re: Forthcoming new RPG game As every top-selling professional game, beta testing begins with the release. Just kidding, sorry for the numerous bugs in the game. A new version of the game will be released this evening.
Thanks for every report that makes the game bug-free and better.
Re: Forthcoming new RPG game Very cool, which path did you choose in the shop? Did you give the bracelet to her (more hints, but less gold) or sell it (more gold and less hints)?
Re: Forthcoming new RPG game I'm not entirely sure. My English is not so good. I haven't sold anything. So I must have given it. I always won gold playing cards. I then defeated the witch with lots of healing potions. (DeepL Translation)
