 [C64] The Exorcist found

FYI, a very rare copy of Exorcist C64 version has been found, seems that very few copies where distributed in the Spanish market only. Of course, it has been linked very soon as official C64 version. Have a nice read of the global recap of the whole story here at GTW.

Wow! If only we could ask Doug (R.I.P) if he knew of it's existence. sad

The in-game font above the map looks very suspicious for a game of 1984! wink

But the rest of the game graphics look very credible in that C64 type of way for 1984. happy

@MIK: what jumps to my attention is the well stated pseudo-Stonehenge little gfx on top of the map, which on C16 can be difficultly interpreted.

Ha! I missed that and I agree. We have temple ruins shown in a style that makes the map look as if it's under ground. Stonehenge is too big a monument to not be shown on the game cover, and it's not really known for ghouls and ghosts but is known for Summer and Winter solstice.

Recently there has been a couple of genuine arcade machines from the 1980's that never released but only now have turned up, Marble Madness 2 being one of them. Maybe some one has been inspired by this. wink

What we do know, Icicle Works and Fire Ant graphically look the same on both machines...

If someone is interested, here's the thread when they were looking for someone to be able to get a C64 load the tape. That was Kopsec who sells tapuinos on eBay.

Very interesting stuff, and a nice find! MIK, I'm not sure why you mentioned Doug, looks like the C64 version is written by the same author as the C16 version (Greg Duddle).

Agree with Chronos that "ours" is better though wink

@Csabo Seeing as Doug did Icicle Works for Commodore UK on the C64 first... he may of been aware of other titles Commodore UK had made that year... I've never seen Greg post here so he can't be asked and while it could be genuine there is a small chance that font above the map is not.

Ah, I see. I contacted him (Greg) via email a long time ago, that mini interview is still up on his page along with the email address (though I wouldn't be surprised if that no longer works).

Nice find. I'm finding more and more C16 games I thought were exclusive to our system on the C64 such as Tycoon Tex (C64) and Dork's Dilemma (C64), but this game is complete and doesn't appear to be ported from the C16 wink

 Re: [C64] The Exorcist found

Taken from GTW:

"Thanks to Vinny Mainolfi (who contacted Greg to find out more), Greg could only recall a C16/Plus 4 edition being coded. Upon seeing this finding, it was all but a mystery to him. He believes he probably wrote it on the C64 originally, but then Commodore contacted Mr Micro asking for software support for their new C16 platform – so the game was converted over. It doesn’t quite answer why the C64 version wasn’t released too – but perhaps Commodore felt it was too simple for the platform?".

Nice find Luca!

Too simple for a C64??? Lol most things on C64 were simple in 1984, like Magic Carpet from Mastertronic for example. grin
