 Commodore 116

Hi there! To anyone's knowledge, is there an English version of the C116 bedienungshandbuch somewhere in the web? I have tried translating it with online tools, but it's too complicated (you have to split the file, and even then the translation is poor due to bad OCR'd characters, and the layout goes crazy).
TIA happy

There is an Owner's Guide at

https://commodore.bombjack.org/c16-plus4/

but I'm not sure is that is what you are looking for.

I think it should be pretty much the same as the C16 User's Manual, which is available here (in the Publications section).

Is there something specific you're looking for in them?

Nope, nothing particular. I am the proud owner of a Commodore 116 (incomplete, missing parts, but boxed), so I was thinking about implementing it with an original manual, or a professionally printed copy. I'll stick to the German version then. It's not to have info about how the computer works (I also have Commodore 16 and Plus/4 manuals), but for the sake of completing my collection happy.

It sounds strange that the C116 was sold only with German manuals, even if the German and East Europe markets were prevalent.

The Commodore 116 was only sold in German-speaking countries, you can also see it on the original packaging. I myself have had many C-116 here, and I have never seen a manual in a language other than German.

In any case, the content of the manuals is the same in the German manuals: except for the illustrations for the connections and the circuit diagram, which is always printed in the appendix.

The devices that were sold to Eastern Europe, practically Hungary, were only stocks from Commodore Germany.

 Re: Commodore 116

I see, thank you Rüdiger for your reply. I bought my C116 stuff from Germany in fact happy. Incredible to see how limited was the market for this computer. Still can't figure out why the regressed to Spectrum keys 8/.

Three questions more for you, or anybody with more knowledge than me:

1) Is there any quick way to automatically translate the manual from the original PDF? Online services or freely downloadable software/apps? Ideally, I'd like to have a copy of it in English, preserving the page layout, pictures etc (long shot, I know).

2) My C116 is missing some chips. I have just received it, so I still haven't tried my C16 or my Plus/4 chips to see if it works. I'm talking specifically about CPU, TED, and kernal. Would it be OK to use the C16 or Plus/4 counterparts? Apparently, MOS codes are exactly the same as required by the C116. Or are there some machine-specific chips required?

3) Is the regular 9V PSU of the C16 ok also for the 116?

TIA!

2) Yes, the assembly of the board is the same, regardless of whether it is C-16 or C-116 or Plus/4. The kernel ROM version 318004-04 is often found in the C-116, but it can be replaced by a 318004-05. Of course, the slots on the boards are different, but you can swap everything (except for the 3-plus - 1 ROMs of the Plus/4, of course not!).

3) The power supply is the same for the C-16 and C-116, only C-16 is on the power supply.

 Re: Commodore 116

@orion70: the C116 is basically a C16 in a different case. Everything else (including PSU, ICs and manuals) is the same, you can use the C16 manual, you can use chips from a C16 or a plus/4.

The C116 is the computer the 264 series originally meant to be: a really cheap one to compete with the ZX Spectrum hence the crap keyboard and the small form factor.

 Re: Commodore 116

Thank you guys for your competent and quick responses. I'll just try my 116 with 16 chips and PSU then.
As for the manual, I can't understand a single word in German (except for Würstel happy), but the original 116 manual was only for the sake of completing the collection.

Never mind, it was only a weird way to say I don't understand German happy
