Tetris 2K21A new Tetris game has been released today. Dubbed Tetris 2K21, it stems from the 1990 Vortex release. Let's Play a round of Tetris :-)

 Re: Tetris 2K21!

Well guys, this is in fact a brand new, completely re-written game, only loosely based on the 1990 release! It should deserve a better presentation in the home page, as this effort is both huge and very well carried on. WAY WAY better than the original.

Congratulations to Csabo, KiCHY, and all the good guys who tested it. Can't wait to try this on the real machine happy happy happy

 Re: Tetris 2K21!

Thank you! I'll take this opportunity to mention something cool about the original release though, AFAIK this has to been known all this time (I haven't seen it mentioned in any magazine, etc). There's a small hidden feature: you can type CREDITSLIST into the high score table, and the authors' names will show up happy

 Re: Tetris 2K21!

WOW you guys are really hitting it hard this year with big name releases of yesteryear, very cool. grin

Don't forget to add a small bit about Alexey Pajitnov, the Soviet guy who created it.

Maybe not worth adding but just a mention is that the C64 version was also released under the Mastertronic + label, of course now owned by Virgin at that point in time. They could of released Manic Miner tho for C16/Plus4 on that label. tongue

And most defo skip the fact it was the biggest selling game on Gameboy, we don't care. wink

Look forward to having a blast, cheers Csabo !!

Amazing work guys!!! I could not recover from my mistakes ha, and come line 80 it just got nasty with the speed. grin

Wicked music Csabo!!! happy
Always nice to hear some BASS on a TED machine and love the snare drum, proper Codemasters Micro Machines 2 on Megadrive style! An eye opener, or should that be EAR opener for anyone into C64 and takes a look, well done. happy

 Re: Tetris 2K21!

Thanks for your work! I tried it (i wasn't tester) and it was fun happy
Edited: I played with the original game yesterday. I remember it was very good. But this edition is more playable, colorful and the easier to play. You can rotate left and right. And yes after 80 rows it's very fast.

 Re: Tetris 2K21!

Wow, this is a really polished gem. Thanks for the original authors, and big thanks for the new authors happy
(and the testers too).
It was very interesting to listen TED+DigiMuz together, sounds pretty good too!

This is a really fun game to play. Though I've never had any big success in Tetris, it was a great experience!
Congrats!

 Re: Tetris 2K21!

I tried to play it in the real hardware with a joystick but the movements were too fast, difficult to control. Like I push the button and it rotates 2 times in a row.

MMS: loál grin
Marcos64: You're right sadly. Csabo timed the controls to the emulator, so sometimes it "jumps" on real hardware. On the other hand, if you try the original it works the opposite way, you need to press hard to control the movements (and about the music.. bah, its terrible).. My final thoughts: Csabo's version is 100x more enjoyable than TCFS grin

 Re: Tetris 2K21!

I didn't have any issues with Tetris 2K21 controls on a real Plus/4, (PAL). Maybe my timing is different like I don't press fire for as long or I'm not as heavy handed??? I used a joystick to play, (joyport 1 aka joy 0). I have not tried keyboard.

Sadly that's not true. I cannot say anything about the price as there is no way to buy it but I have my *opinion* about being good: the two main flaws is that it reuses the address range of the speech hardware and the other (bigger) issue is that it does not have a stable clock so the output frequency differs card by card and changes with temperature.

I agree that the AY could be a good sound source for the plus/4 but not in this form. But this is just my opinion and it's *very* offtopic here. Sorry.

@Chronos: Thanks for the info. At least I know now that it is not a problem of my C16.

 Re: Tetris 2K21!

Really great version! A request for another feature: With arrow up you can "park" the current stone and the next kicks in. If you have a parked stone "Arrow up" swaps out the parked one with the current falling one. See Tetris 99 on the switch.

Just as reminder, Tetris 2K21 got the Gold Medal award on Zzap! Italia, claiming a 96% overall value.
