 YAPE 1.0.5 released

Another surprise: after an almost 2-year hiatus finally a new version of YAPE is released. Most notable changes are:

  • show full IEC path in directory listing
  • using Direct3D 9.0 (at last...) - still not the most up-to-date but hey...:
    • better fullscreen mode (no resolution mode change)
    • more consistent CRT emulation across video modes
    • adjustable video oversampling in DX mode (i.e. 'Use GDI' off)
    • Direct3D surfaces can be saved to PNG format
    • replaced 'double size' with 'double scan' in DX mode (576 row line buffer)
    • removed deprecated overlay mode and DirectDraw dependencies
  • Windows XP and higher only (sorry... no time to maintain earlier ones)
  • file association bug fixed
  • autostart fixes
  • tape motor should not start when PLAY/RECORD is pressed via the GUI
  • some code cleanups

This time follow the link to the "Gaia's Shrine" page to download the latest version. Link: http://gaia.atilia.eu

Cheers all happy

Some people reported problems (probably missing D3D9.DLL) that resulted in a crash so I will reupload a statically linked binary to my website soon. If anyone encounters problems please try redownloading in a few minutes.

EDIT: actually it is recommened downloading anyhow ;)

I downloaded the fixed version, on XP SP3, D3D9.dll is present and ok, nonetheless it crashes if I wanna fullscreen it.

Oh, stupid Windows... Not sure what to say now, I tested on a few machines and had no problems...

 Re: YAPE 1.0.5 released

Luckily, I saved my previous .ini file, because if I use the one included in the ZIP file YAPE crashes instantly while opening.

Yeah, "Use GDI" is turned on in that one I guess. So you have the same problem as Kichy...

EDIT: just tested on my old netbook running Windows XP and after manually adding D3DX9_35.DLL (the right way is to install the latest DX runtime for Windows) it works... even in full screen mode :-O

 Re: YAPE 1.0.5 released

I have D3DX9_35.DLL in my /SYSTEM32 folder, but GDI fails and the emulator crashes when it's off, or when I choose fullscreen

EDIT: tested on a Win7 64bit. The YAPE.exe file runs flawlessly, the YAPE.exe x64 doesn't even open claiming for an error calling.

 Re: YAPE 1.0.5 released

Talking of fullscreen. I still can't get it to fit the entire width of the screen, as the picture still appears in 4:3 format with black vertical bars instead of 16:9.

Although I have a new quite powerful modern laptop with a Nvidia Geforce GT745N graphics card which should be enough, my monitor resolution isn't the best maxing out at 1366x768. But then I don't get this 4:3 only problem with the Vice emulator.

Any ideas?

 Re: YAPE 1.0.5 released

Go to advanced settings and choose stretching though it will be a bit amorph. Inthe next version i'll readd a few 4:3 modes such as 800x600.

 Re: YAPE 1.0.5 released

Those experiencing problems (except Luca happy ), please:

1) Download & install the 2010 DirectX runtime:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=8109
2) Redownload the package from the homepage.

If you're still having issues please contact me privately with:
1) a screenshot of DXDIAG.EXE
2) video card type and memory size, driver version
3) screen resolution
4) a copypaste of the YAPE log (or crash dump)

 Re: YAPE 1.0.5 released

If you save a BMP screenshot, it goes in the same folder where the .prg file has been opened. If you save a second BMP, it should go in the same folder with the suffix 000(+1).bmp, but in this new version the second BMP prefers to go in the /Documents and settings folder, named as <user>0000.bmp. Why?

 Re: YAPE 1.0.5 released

@Luca: The problem is well known by Gaia. I have informed him deeply time ago.
Actually it seems that Yape can manage only one external path. When you (or system) change it, ALL the following operations are addressed to the new path.
This affects the disk emulation too, if you set a PC folder as a device (for ex. Unit#9=c: emp).

Hoping on next release wink

 Re: YAPE 1.0.5 released

SVS: how deeply ago? This has begun only 2 days ago when 1.0.5 overlapped 1.0.4 to me happy 0001.bmp usually did follow 0000.bmp in the same folder, allowing me to easily produce a title and a main .gif and quickly add'em to this site. Now that's changed...now!

 Re: YAPE 1.0.5 released

@Luca: the bug is old, maybe more than a year ago.
In your case, maybe something did need access to the new folder (I don't know what) and from then Yape aimed to the new path. I use XP SP3 and that behavior was common. For example if you set Yape to aim a device like a disk unit and another to printer output: they become the same one.
Disk is not resettable even by Yape menu option. Only restart... :-/

If you you use Win7 (or Win8) you have more opportunities happy)

 Re: YAPE 1.0.5 released

XP SP3 here too, didn't manage particular setups, simply used doubleclick on IEC drive, and it usually saves in the same folder with the starting .D64 or .PRG.

 Re: YAPE 1.0.5 released

I can not reproduce Luca's bug... But the good news is that the crash now seems to be fixed. To be honest I am not sure what exactly fixed it, perhaps some machines do not like certain size offscreen surfaces?

Thanks! But we are at danger: there are no other developing emulators for +4.
