| Review (Your Commodore, July 1986) | During the current burst of interest in the C-16/Plus/4 market a lot of C-64 games are gaining a new lease of life. Skyhawk resembles Virgin Games' Falcon Patrol which has long been a favourite of mine. As the pilot of an advanced VTOL fighter it is your job to see off the enemy bombers which are devastating the countryside. Fuel and air-to-air missiles (AAMs) must be monitored carefully during each battle and should the need for re-equipping your fighter arise you will have to be fast and careful and keep an eye on the radar for approching bombers. At first each wave consists of two planes but this gradually increases to four as the game progresses. Unlike Falcon Patrol, the jet cannot descend into the 3D scrolling landscape. This makes refuelling less hazardous, but still tricky, because the plane cannot crash unless it collides with a bomber. Skyhawk is a game of survival. The bombers keep coming until you have run out of jets or fuel after all of the refuelling platforms have been destroyed. Cheap, cheerful and quite addictive.

| Fixing Colours | Cassette Front Cover photo version of Skyhawk
For reasons unknown to us Skyhawk shipped with the sky yellow and the screen boarder green as seen from the .tap of the game. However you may of noticed the cover photo shows the game with a blue sky and a dark blue boarder. By chance we can see in the original released version graphic debris of the original sky colour where the rivers meet the sky showing a blue line. If you would like to see what Skyhawk might of looked like at the time the photo was taken try the following:
Enter the MONITOR. >1063 66 >1072 36 (setting border color to dark blue)
To restart the game, once again in the MONITOR type G20E8 and press RETURN.

| Some Weird Facts About | The game is played using Joystick in PORT1. When a joystick is also connected to PORT2 pressing and holding DOWN will pause/freeze the game action. Maybe used for taking screen shots of the game and was left in?
Bitterne Software Title Screen: When the music is playing on the, "Bug Byte Presents" title screen and you press FIRE to start a new game you will see text flash up on the screen very quickly. This is the Bitterne Software title screen and maybe the original title screen of the game. To see the Bitterne Software title screen in full allow the music to run out, the tune loops twice before it finishes slowly getting quite before the screen changes. |
