Instructions
You can move left/right with the joystick or "a" and "4" keys. You can control the height of the next jump by using the joy fire or "shift" key. The height indicator can be seen on the bottom of the screen.

Graphics' Compromise
Arguably, the foes which run along the screens had been drawn as multicolor sprites, whereas the player's sprite is basically hires defined. Unfortunately, at every new screen the game's code assigns the colors by picking up 4 general values from a lookup table located in $1B00. This means that the screen color assigned for the whole screen can generally be white, either for hires graphics ($71 or $F1) or multicolor graphics ($79), away from a specifically assigned color per any single sprite. The coder's choice has been in favour of the player's sprite in order to keep the ball's animation as better defined as possible, making the visuals of the enemy sprite worser than the graphics artist had drawn. $FF17 had been considered too in the process, but after that the hires compromise had been chosen it had to be turned white in order to validate the bas relief effect of the walls in the background graphics.
