The C=64 requires +12 and +5 VDC (which you can derive from the car's 12
volt battery AND 9VAC (a 555 timer IC and a pair of transistors will do it) for the time of day clocks on the 6526 CIA chips (won't run with-out it).
The VIC-20 uses 9vac (usually around 12vac measured) but it is rectified and only DC voltages are used to power the computer. It is the better choice for auto use.
If all you need is an accelerometer, hang a weight from a paddle so that it can swing back and forth as the car changes speed and plug the paddle into the joystick port, read the paddle values.
