 Another cbm4win problem, need help too, please :)

Hi folks,

I'm trying to transfer my 1581 disks over to d81 images on the pc. I have done some research on cbm4win and it looks like it is possible using the command line version of the program. But I'm having problems getting it to detect the drive as 8 and reading the disk. Has anyone managed to transfer their 1581 disks using cbm4win on a xp machine? If so does anyone know the exact command line to initialise the transfer?

Thanks,

Chris

The command I'm using is:

cbmcopy -r -d 1581 8 a.d81

The error I'm getting is "[Fatal] could not open file for reading: 99, DRIVER ERROR,00,00"

Chris: are you sure it is possible? I've never known that cbm4win was able to build real d81 images. In fact I have to use 1581copy to do it.

@SVS: That's right !

CBM4WIN supports only .D64 and .D71 Files/Images...
Indeed, the disk drive 1581 is also supported, but just not fully yet.

I find the Gui excellent for transfering 1541 images, but when I try to use it with my 1581 it detects the drive but won't transfer the images.

Also tried 1581 copy that SVS mentioned, but I used it on my laptop which is a modern machine. Think I will try it on a older dos based machine to see if there is any difference.

Thanks guys happy

@Chris: Cbm4Win cannot handle D81 images. Then, even if you did produce a 1581-disk image (.D81), it cannot be transferted to a real 1581 drive.
You have to operate as follows:
1) Write a 3,25" disk (1581 format) with 1581copy by a PC;
2) Pull the disk and insert it into the 1581 drive

Hoping been helpful

Too bad a good GUI wasn't written for the Copy1581 program. Would make it a lot easier to use...

Certainly would have been brilliant to have the 1581 coded into the Gui, but think I will be using Copy1581 on a old pc. Thanks alot everyone for helping happy
