I just bought a C116...Happy happy joy joy!

Hi all

I am now the lucky owner of a C116, serial number 000123! I bought it from an ex Commodore employee here in Norway, it has never been used and has been lying in his closet for god knows how many years.

The box is not like the ones I've seen pictures of on the net, it is a simple white cardboard box, with the serial number (000123) stamped on it as well as the handwritten text "C-116". It seems to be a box designed for the C116 computer though, as the machine, power supply and tv lead all fit perfectly into their places I'll try to get some photos taken of both the computer and the box as soon as possible. (I'll set up a C116 page on my site soon)

Sadly, it doesn't come with a manual, and I know for a fact that this computer was never sold in Norway. The guy I bought it from won it at a Commodore party in the late 80's. Judging from the low serial number, the box etc. I'd think it was sent to Commodore Norway (probably in 1983/1984?) as some sort of a sample to see if they thought it'd be suitable for the Norwegian market or something.
Could it be that the manual wasn't printed yet at this time?

If anyone has a memory expansion they don't need (fat chance...) please contact me...I'd like to start porting my C64 game to the C116/C16/+4, or at least write some demos for it, so anyone having info on programming the thing should also get in touch...

RE: "As far as I know"

Yes you can play most C64 SID's with "Music Hearing"

You will have to use Playsid to convert them back to the original format, this will also provide the memory address for each tune to be used with "Music Hearing".

Been a while since I did some and sort of forgot how to How ever I have a D64 image I made with some SID I ported over if you need it.

Yet -another- question about the SID card...

Is there a program that allows me to play SID tunes with it? Would be nice to use that since the SID card has a miniplug connector to feed the stereo system directly

 Answers... :)

Hey, you have so many questions, that it is nearly impossible to answer them all
So, in no order:
- all (serial) disk drives that work with C64, should work with the C16/116/+4
- both the joystick and the tape adapter differ only from the C64 ones in the pinouts, so that means making a converter is relatively easy
- about the graphic capabilities, I have some more URLs, so drop me a mail if interested
- all other hardware (memory expansion, SID card) can be ordered from Solder (http://solder-synergy.de/plus4)
- several Music tools can be found here : ftp://c64.rulez.org/pub/plus4/Tools/Music/
once you have a SID card, I'd recommend using SIDwinder (there is a C64 version, too!)...

So, this is maybe enough for now as a start, isn't it??
Anyway enjoy your new machine, and wish you luck with the +4 scene

 Music programs...and more questions

I'm afraid I don't know anything about C16/+4 music programs. I guess Luca/Fire would be the right person to ask about that...?

Is the SID board a commercial product? Who made it? What are the capabilities of the normal C16/+4 soundchip, apart from having 2 voices? Are there any good music editors for the built in sound chip?

Oh, and what about the gfx chip, does it support hardware scrolling like the VIC II, and does it have a raster beam control register like on the C64?

 Oi Utne!

That's quite some cash you spent eh? But hey, it's a serial number in the 100s!

Anyway, do you know of any good tool to compose music with these machines? I'd like to use my plus/4 for some composing. And i'd be well chuffed if I get a SID board. Anybody out there with a spare one to sell me?

Cheers,

 Lucky me :-)

Yes, I feel extremely lucky

The C116 cost me about 220 British pounds at the auction, I'm also hoping to get a cassette player for it which is being sold at the same auction site at the moment. I guess that 1541/1541-II/1581-drives can be used with it as the serial port looks like the one on the C64?

What about joysticks, can C64 joysticks be modified for use with the C116/C16/+4? Or is there some sort of adaptor which can be built (or bought)?

I'm very much interested in obtaining additional hardware and software for it. If anyone out there has original tape games etc. for the C16 then I've got lots of C64/Amiga hardware and software and maybe we could arrange some sort of deal...Any books would also be of great interest to me

Now if I could only get my hands on a Plus4, a C65, a C16, an A1000 and a C64GS...

On which IRC net is the Plus4 channel located?
