3D: James Webb Space Telescope - Launched successful Dec 25th!

Hi and Merry Christmas!

I did two new 3d-graphics with a new method, because the models i want to draw are so big, that they don't fit in memory 64 kB any more. In Belnder you can export Renders as SVG-Files (Vector-Graphics). The XML format uses paths which can be converted into BASIC Draw and Locate commands. I wrote a converter for that.

I started with the Hubble Space Telescope (the models are from NASA 3d ressources):

Then i tried the James Webb Space Telescope (lauch tommorow hopefully):

The idea came from a facebook Tektronics 4051 forum, where some Starwars droids were renderd by converting a SVG Graphic into HPGL-files (HP Plotter files) and than to Tektronic Basic.

Hope you like the pictures. Drawing speed is fast compared to my 3dengine. No speedup is needed any more. If you want to try out: You can download the code for the JWST here http://patsos.de/New_Weblog/?p=654

Have a nice Christmas!

UPDATE: I wish you all a Happy Christmas !

Yeah, this new tool is pure fantastic, next to unbelievable.

With the help of George I tried out this new feature, and such a very complex model just simply exported from Blender, converted by George with his program to a SEQ file, and VOILA! I am very happy such a fantastic tool exists, we could not dream of few years ago.

The speed is just great. It is still not compiled, just a 1KB BASIC code, can render any of the SEQ file attached to it.

12 minutes of drawing, mainly limited by the IEC drive speed, 100% emulation speed. The current 3D model I used is still too detailed for the task.
Possible improvements:
BASIC Ccde could be compiled, 3D model could be simplified, drive may have turbo loading.

(3D model is from felipelunardelli, downloaded for free from sketchfab.com)

The steps:
1) Choose your 3D

2) Adjust model in Blender (camera, etc)

3) Export it with SVG format, looks like this in Edge

4) Convert it with George's tool into SEQ file

5) Add it to a disc image next to the displayer BASIC routine (suggested to be a D81)

6) View it!

7) Adjust manually the scale of the picture in the BASIC routine

@MMS: Impressive picture and thank you for your intense testing.
@Mik: Thank you for your kind words.

The converter is not relased yet and needs some GUI-polish, because the whole process needs some parametric settings, but since MMS already works with the program i will release a basic version of it soon.

Edit 2022-01-13: The converter can be found here: http://patsos.de/New_Weblog/?p=671
