 Re: Future wars

Yes, actually it is a really nice tech-demo (in this form).

It uses big soft-sprite. If you look closer the main sprite uses only 2 colors.
These should be Color 0 (background) and Color3 (2nd background color)
As these two colors are valid accross the whole screen and does not change, drawing them anywhere will not cause color clash within an attribute (in multiclor 4 colors per attribute, 2 color is fixed, as mentioned beforehand)

The other areas use only two extra colors, and use the background color (0) for shade.
The number of used colors is very evident where the water meets the gound, the attributes are easy to identify.

Additionally it should use a kind of second map for foreground/background priority to simulate the HW sprite behaviour.
During the test it is visible to be a 40x25 character map, and not perfectly done, but works (it doe snot work perfectly as the movement area not limited yet). I suppose it is a simple 0 or 1 content, when the sprite's bottom edge is higher than this element, which one should be visible.

I think Magicians's Curse is similar impressive (even using semitranparent parts, like the bridge), and much faster (could be because one element could be JUST before or JUST behind you). So it may use only the color's number (0-15) which one is before you and which one behind you.
Certainly it is a fast paced short action/adventure with annoying bats, but the engine is pretty impressive too.
