A SID emulációból nincs mit meghallgatni, mivel a fejlesztés odáig nem jutott el, hogy bármi hang kijöjjön belőle.  (Egy minimális tesztprogram készült a µC-be; ez egy portbitet átmásolt egy másikba. A plus/4 oldaláról az egyik bitet lehetett változtatni, a másiknak az állapota meg látszott. Szóval ilyen minimalista "hello world" program, a hardverek kb. működnek, aztán ennyi.) Akkor még csak a SwinSID volt elérhető, abból ki is lehetett volna indulni. Hogy a most terveződő hardverrel el jutok-e odáig, hogy erről lehessen beszélgetni, azt majd az idő eldönti.
A "kissé off" téma már elég rég óta foglalkoztat, szerintem valamelyik partin beszéltünk is róla. Ha már szóba került, akkor én is elmondom, mire jutottam.
A Solder-féle splittert én egy kicsit problémásnak érzem, több okból is. A plus/4 expansion port valójában nem bővítő busz, csak egy pont-pont csatlakozásra kitalált valami. Ha erre nekiállsz ráaggatni mindenféle díszt, mint egy karácsonyfa, az minden lesz, csak megbízható nem. Még a gyári, 1551-es paddle-k egymásba dugdosása is meredek, legalábbis úgy érzem. A SID-kártyát emiatt nem érzem úgy, hogy érdemes lenne ilyen módon átalakítani.
De! Az a téma viszont érdekes lehet, hogy csináljunk egy olyan bővítést, ami valóban bővítő busz, tehát van rajta több kártyahely, ahova tetszés szerint lehet mindenféle funkciójú kártyákat dugdosni. Viszont ehhez több olyan dolgot is meg kell csinálni, ami miatt az ehhez készült kártyák alapból nem működnének a sima expansion portra kötve. Ha meg már az nem működik, akkor nem kell ragaszkodni az új (immár) busznál az 50 pólusú 2 mm-es raszterű jelenlegi élcsatlakozóhoz, lehet helyette valami olcsóbb, és leginkább beszerezhető darabot választani. A régi csatlakozó elhagyását azért is merném meglépni, mivel - sajnos - nincs tengernyi, jelenleg használatban levő mindenféle bővítés, amit ide dugdosunk. Az esetleges régebbi, érdemesnek tartott hardverekhez mondjuk lehetne egy legacy expansion port csatlakozót csinálni, szintén mondjuk valamilyen kártya formájában, de ezt azért jól át kellene gondolni.
Még tavaly (vagy előtte..?) nekiálltam ezt prototípusban összerakni, de ez is a "sehol sem tart" témáimat gyarapítja; addig nem akartam beszélni róla, ameddig legalább valami mutatni való nincs. Ami most sincs, de ha ez itt szóba került, gondoltam leírom.

In terms of SID emulation there is nothing to listen to since the development hasn't got there. (A minimal test program was created for µC; it copied a port bit into another. One bit on the Plus/4's side could be changed, and the other side could see the change. So it's a minimalist "hello world" program, proves that the hardware is running, and that's it.) Back then, only SwinSID was available, and could have been a starting point. Whether or not I can get the hardware to that point, only time will tell.
The "slightly off" stuff has been bugging me for quite some time now, I think we talked about it at a party. Since we're talking about it, I'll tell you what I got.
I find Solder's splitter a bit problematic for several reasons. The Plus/4's expansion port is not really a bus, just a point-to-point connection thing. If you start plugging in all kinds of things into it, it will be anything but trustworthy. Even plugging in the official 1551 paddles is "steep", at least I think so. For this reason, I do not feel it is worthwhile to modify the SID card.
But! It might be interesting to create an expansion that is actually an expansion bus, so there are more card slots on it, where you can plug in cards of various functions. To achieve this however, there are several things would need to be done which would prevent the cards created for this from working normally on a stock expansion port. And if that doesn't work anymore, the new bus doesn't have to the current 50-pin 2mm socket, we could replace it with something cheaper and the more importantly available. I would also dare to leave the old connector behind because, unfortunately, there are not a whole bunch of extensions currently in use that we could plug in here. For older hardware that we might consider worthwhile, we could make a legacy expansion port, also in the form of a card, but one would have to think this through in detail.
Last year (or earlier...?) I started to put this into a prototype, but this also falls into the "it's not done at all" category; I didn't want to talk about it until there was at least something to show. Which is not the case now, but since the topic came up, I thought I'd write this down.
