When do they want to refurbish the C+/4, too? :-)

Hi All Commodore Plus /4 Enthusiasms,

I have found an interesting product:

https://ipon.hu/shop/termek/koch-media-the-c64-mini/1663375

What's your opinion?

The keyboard of this "miracle" doesn't work, AFAIK.

More details and money:

Have a nice day.

Heh, you're quite late about this (which is also a bigger offtopic here btw happy ). I see you've lost years of fantastic dramas...

The C64 Mini is under the radar since years, mostly because it represents just the very first product by Koch Media, in a range of 2-3 of them, kickstarted since years, where the major interest is for the forthcoming C64 replica 1:1 size with working keyboard and the portable C64. It's basically an emulator with HDMI, you linked some resellers but if you're interested, you should be better informed via the official product page, their Facebook page, and there are tons of video reviews all around if you wanna dive a bit into it. Search for them, I'm not gonna link'em here to honour a minimum respectfulness against similar offtopic on this forum, hahaha! :D

They shouldn't have done that to the C64 either. Thank God that our machines are so insignificant.

This thing is quite some "thing" in germany since a while, even non scene people have largely recognized it.. I think I did remember people beeing "angry" about it in the C64 demoscene, a long time ago. At a team event of my company it did also show up if I remember right.. Hah and I did a game for the german company Koch Media years ago, funny coincidence <3, seems they're doing hardware now?? :).. However the SNES mini for me is quite more interessting. But luckily this will never happen to the plus/4..

I'm kinda baffled at the sentiments expressed in this thread; I've heard of this a long while back and we've seen them in the stores - I thought of it as a good thing. No-one says it's a real C64, I doubt there's any confusion or attempt at misleading customers... It's for nostalgic end-consumers. I'd compare them to the little Pac-Man arcades; I wonder if someone is angry at those being released... Anyway, if I saw a Plus/4 version of this, I'd buy one in a heartbeat! It would be sooo cute happy

Re: When do they want to refurbish the C+/4, too? :-)

What it is in short is Vice C64 in a box that runs via HDMI @ 720p. It runs on a version of Vice any way.

Since the last firmware update, (1.1.4) which was only released a couple of weeks back it has greatly improved the thing compared to what it was out of the box thanks to a new file browser. It now properly supports D64, G64, D81, D82, T64, TAP, PRG, P00 and even CRT!
Every different file you use gets 4 save state slots which save directly to your memory stick/sd card so you can carry on as before at a later date, that's cool.

It's not bad though, instead of having a PC fired up or laptop to mess with C64 this small box of tricks does the job well. A USB hub can add more USB ports so a real PC keyboard can be used, memory sticks, SD cards ect and a spare joystick or pad. Some wireless keyboards also work.

There is a slight 'sound' delay as you would expect from emulation but playing games is fine, you get used to it as you do going from the real thing to PC ect. I guess it started out as more of a toy because of the lack of file support but this last update has really made a difference. I have one just for messing about, saves me switching the real thing on when all I want to do is have a quick mess about.

An all in one that does C64, C128, Plus/4 and Vic 20 would of been sweat though and it's very possible of course. Maybe another 10 years we might get lucky or someone hacks one so it does more.

Re: When do they want to refurbish the C+/4, too? :-)

Luca You seem to be a little bit ironic, but never mind. First of all, I was looking for topics about "C64 mini" in this Forum before I start to write... Secondly you said that this is a big offtopic, but I don't think so, because you missed the main point of it: THE TITLE of this topic! Ha-ha-ha! happy In the end, I like computers, I am open-minded, so you was knocking on a wrong door.

gerliczer Yes, you are right. I have never seen a similar attempt to build a Commodore Plus /4 computer anywhere. On the other hand this C64 mini = a useless plastic case + a RaspberryPI (or other fruit machine) for a very high price.

Mad Thank you for your very interesting response. I always learn new things by passing days.

MIK WoW! It's fantastic! You are the man who prove this topic is NOT so big off... Merry Xmas! happy

Csabo Thank you for your very significant reply. I would like to buy a new Commodore Plus /4 computer, with working keyboard of course... happy

Well, is there anybody who can build up a new Commodore Plus /4 device (maybe with some extended features) from the basics? (not with Raspberry, not with Keyrah, not with VICE)

For example: (this is offtopic, I know)

Commodore Amiga 500 --> Minimig

gerliczer WoW! Thank you for drawing my attention to this individual project and genius!

It should be built in a Plus/4 type keyboard and almost perfect!

So, the hope for a new Commodore Plus /4 has not dead, yet. happy

/OFF

Regarding the C64 Mini, I found this post over at CSDb by Compyx/Focus^VICE Team:
"... Basically it's an allwinner A20 with VICE 2.4, and some GPL issues."

Who would've thought.
