 Drives reset in Yape

I'm playing with Yape drive setting and met problems when change drive type, while a program is running. It even seems that the menu option Machine/Drive Reset is not fully functionally.
From my tests the only way to be "sure" of working of the new drive is to hit a reset (F11). But unfortunately this is not possible in all cases (for example if you have to set the new drive as output of the program you've just loaded).
Any tip?

 Re: Drives reset in Yape

Just a quick test, using Yape 1.0.4, and I notice that Drive 8 reset gives a *green* indicator flash, where Drive 9 gives a *red* indicator flash.

If it matters: my drive 8 is 1551 CPU emulation, drive 9 is 1541 CPU emulation.

 Re: Drives reset in Yape

Yape drive activity leds are coloured like they are on the original drives so they are different for a 1541 and for a 1551. (at least I remember it being so but I'm too lazy to check)

edit: okay I've looked at the gallery of my stuff and found out that drive activity leds are in fact red for 1540/1541/1551/1570 and green for the 1571 and 1581. In Yape they are red for the 1541 and green for 1551/1581.

Actually, on the 1541-II the drive activity is green, too. The 1551 (and the regular 1541) is the other way round. The idea back then was being able to quickly identify the drives we booted up with (esp. when you're not on a 1541).

SVS: wouldn't you expect problems when hot-pugging real drives without switching them on/off first? It kinda works under emulation but leaves the ports at an undefined state. Could be fixed but... happy

 Re: Drives reset in Yape

I've just read through SVS's post again: if you use a 1551 then a reset is required. With a real machine you have to turn on the 1551 first and then the computer. Or you have to press reset if you reversed the order. The reason behind this is that the reset routine in the computer initializes the registers on the 1551 paddle and when you switch the drive on after this then it will be in undefined state as Gaia wrote. However you should have no such problems with a 1541 because it does not require any special initialization on the computer side.
But I think you're using the 1551 IEC compatibility mode. wink

Thank you for replies.
The 1551 IEC mode is great, but does not manage correctly SEQ file and DIR command. Ehm... Gaia could we hope for an update? wink
