Guys i remember trying that double tape dubbing with many cbm cassettes but it only ever worked with a few programmes. I think they may have had some early form of copy protection. Does anyone remember the strange computer data noises that would drive you insane? Anyhow try using the double adapter device i use with 2 decks, works just about every time. Just load normally with one deck & press record on the other.
I have been told by a UK product producer that to reproduce a generic datasette adapter is in fact quite a difficult task. Perhaps one day i will do it with the help of an advanced 3d printer. Think about it guys, anyone who could reproduce all c16/p4 hardware stands to make a killing on ebay. Whoops there goes my secret to making millions...perhaps a joint venture with you Mik? Whadda yo say mate :}
