Joystick Port guide to Commercial games.

Last edited: 17:41 GMT, 29 JUNE 2012.

I put this together as a guide so you could quickly find out which games use which joystick ports. As we know a number of commercial games printed PORT O which doesn't help and some even printed the wrong info so on the whole even the game covers are not 100% reliable.

Once you have had a look... of course please feel free to copy and paste, add, edit, print or totally redo to your own taste what I have started for your own personal use. Not all games have been added and some are keyboard only don't for get. A couple of useful notes here and there to get you started but please note this is more about 1 player use... anyways.

If your using the real machines, have a favourite joystick and don't like the idea of swapping ports while the machine is on in an effort to protect TED then this could be handy before you switch on.

This could also be handy with YAPE to save messing about as you can see in advance which port is set before playing. On the menu's of YAPE, "Swap Joystick Port" is in fact JOY PORT 1. If you have swapped the joy port you will see a TICK icon in front of the words, "Swap Joystick Port" meaning you are now using Joyport 2. Remember this as you can easily add more to your own list.

Hope it's of some help.

MIK, fantastic work!

I keep your guide as very convenient foodstuff for my games database. I'm going to continue to fiddle around with Superbase - after a 20 years pause...

Prost! (that's German for "cheers"...)

Hans.

No problems. I had to edit a couple just now, typing mistakes. May tweak some more later on to polish things up a bit, if I do I'll leave a date and time of when I edited it in the first post.

Prost! happy

Re: Joystick Port guide to Commercial games.

Cheers guys, was painful to do. happy

A number of games I had not played in a long time and I just wanted to have a quick blast while it was running but had to reset to move on to the next one else it would take forever.

I started with Pen & Paper making a record as I played, but then I had too many and no order to any of them. Started again using PC haha!

A couple of things that really stood out as I was going.
Shaun Southern always used PORT1, good man.
Gremlin Graphics & Solar Software made a good effort to use both PORT1 & PORT2 a lot, very cool.
Udo Gertz used PORT2, a guess from his work done on C64?

There would be no standard on any Commodore machine until an Amiga hogged port1 with a mouse lol.

Yeah, Shaun is a good man. By the way, all his games play with the 3, 4, A, Z, T keys, too. WHile we're at it, MIK, do you still have your Amiga (totally offtopic wink )?

Re: Joystick Port guide to Commercial games.

Udo Gertz used also Port 1 in Winter and Summer Events for all events to play with 2 or more players (Speed Skating, Swimming, Cycling).

Is this possible to make a fetuare on this site, so we can add the joystick information at every game.

MIK: Don't forget in you list that some games without joystick control was fixed, added as cheat at the most games ... and some games without joystick control we must fix, too ...

Re: Joystick Port guide to Commercial games.

Gaia,

Indeed bro the Amiga is sat right next to me much the same as it was when doing C16/Plus4 ClassiX, like a preserved time machine. Something you was after or wanted a look at?

RĂ¼diger,

I guess that would be up to Csabo, maybe a good idea would be to add this lot as a new page under the Plus/4 Encyclopedia so everyone can add things if and when covering all games not just commercial. That way we would all have a copy as we each work on it slowly but surely and then we would always have the latest updated version to look at. A direct link under HELP in the YAPE menu's could be added type of thing to that very page.

At the moment it's more about one player gaming and I guess 2 players is obvious if one player is listed. Hard work getting my kids to play Pacmania with me when all they want to do is play Minecraft on XBOX360 haha!

Some games this stuff has been added in a way, I say some... load more info that's never listed under new stuff too like Pheenix had a note added the other night which is cool. The whole point of this though was to have the joyports listed all in one place and if you wanted you could print them off so you have a copy in your hands. Last thing you would want to do is go hunting for a game on the site just to find the controls which means booting up the PC and wasting bandwidth in the process. I do use the real machines still as well as Yape so it works both ways for me. wink
