Csabo and Mermaid, I think a socket is mandatory. Finding a SID chip is not that hard (and I agree that it's a good idea not to include one because it would just raise the cost and some ppl probably have an extra SID chip around). Other than that it MUST be a plug and play device.
This was bugging me back then with the other SID card project (which never made it) when the joyport was just an option: "If you want one you, can solder it to the board." Some ppl just can't solder (including me) and lines like that are a real turn off.
Questions for BSZ: Is it agreed on to use the new SID? That should be the case if it's compatible with Solder's SID-Card. Also otherwise it would need to support two voltages right? (Leave alone the problems an old SID would cause by drawing too much power - if remember correctly, Bionic reported this).
Will there be a "sample playback via $d418"-fix?
Will there be some kind of line-out (3,5mm) socket on the board?
