DFLI is pretty standard: a new color/luminance map is set every 2nd raster line. (So it's not a single-line FLI - which never looks right - but a Double line FLI.) This gives you 2 unique colors per char 4x2 area. Just search this site for DFLI.
What does "his" specify? I don't know - where did you see that?
