Yes the new palette's colors are very close to the real ones. Their Achilles'Heel is the darker greys: on the real machine you can cleary see a luminance level between two greys in which the whole matter changes radically.
All the rest is very good, especially the "asymmetric video stripes" (one lighter, the mirror opposite one darker) you can see in colortest_2.prg.
Looking forward to the pixel perfect converter feature, I've just chosen some Atari800 pics as specimen ;)
