Patrick: if the preview mode does not work, that means that you either have an old video card without OpenGL 2.0 shader support (which is required by the PAL emulation mode of plus4emu and p4fliconv), or plus4emu - which is needed for the Plus/4 ROM image files and configuration - is not installed. In the latter case, the preview would look like a crashed Plus/4 with garbage displayed. For the first case, I could try building an alternate version of the converter that is more compatible with old machines, at the expense of lower preview quality.
