And one has to plan far ahead these days, cheap flights don't last forever you know...

I would like to include it in the Atari event calendar (after all, it's not a C=-only party wink) at www.atariportal.cz. Does all the other information about Árok still apply?

Well, the offical site is not updated yet, but we're sure about this calendar wink I STRONGLY hope Soci will fix rulez.org before the party, you all should have just noticed it's offline since weeks!

OT: "Sirius" looks fantastic, I'll give it a try when at home, it seems they used the 5 standard Atari sprites and saved lotta charset for the backgrounds, I'm interested in seeing how much variety...

 Re: Árok #10

Yes, I noticed that the files on c64.rulez.org cannot be accessed. Since many files have been available only on rulez.org, those cannot be downloaded at this time at all.
On a somewhat related note, I found some broken download links: for Megaload V6, the correct URL is http://plus4world.com/dl/utils/m/megaload_v6.prg, and Fast-load 1551 is actually at http://plus4world.com/dl/utils/f/fast-load_1551.prg.

Hi!!

I hope you received the pictures I sent you today (to the mail address you highlighted in the member area)
In fact there is only one I think may contribute as real stuff for the competition.

The rest of pictures is send to show the strenghts of PLUS/4 palette, even in single multicolor mode! Demoralize the C64 team, what is coming next year happy)
I hope later a releae will follow, organized around topics (Concept Car, Amiga, Conan, the first ones I just prepare), but still need a lot of work to optimize them.

HUGE respect to Istvan Varga, who developped new to the fantastic PLUS4EMU the most successful multicolor graphics converter program I have ever seen for Plus/4 . Without him I would never be able to convience myself to restart pixel-magic...
(In fact i tried one year ago with Congo, but the result was far from satisfactory even after 15 hours of job in microillustrator..)

Thanks for posting the links. If you have access to the 404 logs of your site, you'll see me desperately trying to figure out the URL (I tried every combination of "arok" "10" and "2008", but couldn't remember "party").

Sorry for the lateness, I got the new releases early yesterday and would have been very happy to update the site but it was unfortunately down. It's up now, but I'm at work, so the downloads will have to wait a few more hours (unless Luca beats me to it).

 Re: Árok #10

Hi, thanks for posting the photos!

By the way, the environment of Party prefers the stong colors and high contrasted pictures, as there was no special paper for the beamer. Maybe next time I will keep it in mind, and prepare something "strong" (cherry droppped into vodka, for example happy) )

By the way, this Copas was not the guy on IMG_3091? Called Nemeth Gabor? Because if he is that guy I know, he coded on Plussy in 1992 (during the University we were on the same floor in Schonhertz), and he had a fantastic 3-voice music module on Plus/4 using digitized smaples (guitar, drum, etc), like tracker on Amiga (I do not know any similar thing on C64 or Amiga), and sounded pretty well.
Maybe I have it on one of my discs, but have no
a) C=1541
b) Printer port to connect my X1541 I built 14 years ago
So cannot check it myself in those 80 discs

Just a minor correction: the converter is called 'p4fliconv', and not 'plus4emu'. It is really disappointing that my emulator is ignored to the extent that it is even confused with other programs (the same error seems to have been made in a note file on the Árok 10 disk).

 Re: Árok #10

Hey Istvan,
I was that lame gave that comment, but I have an explanation... In fact I was in a hurry, and missed an "and" from that sentese (also a comma, but who cares)
I do handle the converter as the part of your EMU package, as the converter is continuously using Plus4EMU. I do not mix them up, but FLICONV is not working without the other.
I do understand, that you had the MOST work on the EMU part to have it cycle exact and supporting all tricks and timings enable all FLIs via emu, and we all greatly respect your work. For me -as graphician- the converter is the most valuable part of the package, as it saves me several hours of work (I can spend on creating other pictures happy ).
Due to that I have the hype on that part, without ignoring the main contributor of the full package: the Emulator
Thanks again, and be sure: all the people here are your friends happy

 Re: Árok #10

It could be improved somewhat, both the conversion quality might be tweaked, and maybe some images could be replaced with better ones as well. I do not know if it is worth creating a simple "demo" from this, as there are not many responses. By the way, does anyone find the image loader/viewer code useful as a standalone program ?

 Re: Árok #10

Ohhhm, you mean the PRG version at the save? (Sorry,I am a little fuzzy after Fezen's Tankcsapda, Blackout etc, and certaily Jager and beer....)
I always use it to check if the conversion is good enough. There are sooo many things/settings i can play... I save the PRG view version always and still paralelly with the Converter I open an other task to see end-result. It helps a lot to see, how it will look like in Botticelli before editing, sometimes I make a conversion 20-25 times, as I am not happy with the result...
So as a reuslt: I found it VERY useful

i know what u mean.. a slideshow wizard! yes it could be useful, but as mms said, we do a lot of tweaks on the converted picture before publishing it.. its not at photos just at other gfx.. btw (:D) i'll request a feature for the converter!!! so, please inlude a row at the "dither type" as "nothing" or "nope".. just try to convert a single black and white tag in multicolor.. there will be some plus pixels on the screen.. thx..

 Re: Árok #10

> i know what u mean.. a slideshow wizard! yes it could be useful, but as mms said, we do a lot of tweaks on the converted picture before publishing it..

Slideshows can be created by simply replacing the "imageNN" files with new ones; you can change the number of the first and last image in the loader program. It can only display FLI images, although adding support for non-FLI modes could be possible. The data format is expected to be either "raw PRG", or (as it actually is on the above disks) "raw PRG" in compressed format (e.g. 'compress.exe -m2 -9 -fli image01.fli image01_.fli', and then add image01_.fli as 'image01' to the disk).

> i'll request a feature for the converter!!! so, please inlude a row at the "dither type" as "nothing" or "nope".. just try to convert a single black and white tag in multicolor.. there will be some plus pixels on the screen.. thx..

Well, since I plan to release a new "bug fix" release in a few days, I could add the no-dither option (you can already disable dithering by setting any of the diffuse dither types - e.g. Floyd-Steinberg - and a zero dither limit, but it is probably not very intuitive). However, it is possible that you get the unwanted extra pixels because of interpolation, and not dithering; see the previous discussions about how the image resizing works in the converter, and how to avoid interpolation artifacts or do pixel exact conversions. So, an option to explicitly disable the sinc interpolation might be useful as well ?

here is the sample:
http://chronos.servers.hu/scoresample.png

its originally a pic with 320x200 dimensions, containing already a plus4 palette.. when i open, the converter resizes it automatically and there is some artifacts on the preview.. check the sample i cannot describe it better..

 Re: Árok #10

Yes, the artifacts are because of the resizing; to avoid them, you can either resize the image to 640x400 before opening (without interpolation, so that each pixel becomes a 2x2 square), or keep the 320x200 resolution, use the plus/4 palette (with all colors at the correct index, and no transparency), and save in .gif format. In the first case, there will still be some artifacts in the non-preview display (because it is resized to 768x576, and not 640x400), but not in the actual conversion output.

By the way, to post links, you can use the < url > ... < / url > tag (without the spaces). There is also an undocumented forum feature to link to software etc. on this site, by using double square brackets around the name.

 Re: Árok #10

The no-dithering and no-interpolation options are now added to the converter. There are some others, too: the image opening effect can be disabled (this was supported by the FLI viewer for a long time, just not implemented as an option in the GUI), and the compression type can be selected for the raw PRG output format. The compressor utility has also been improved somewhat.
