|  Plus/4 Video Cable
I just stepped from the c64 world into the Plus/4 world, and immediately got mud on my boots! I unpacked my used Plus/4, hooked it up to my Commodore 1702 monitor and 1541 disk drive, powered up, and learned my first lesson: C64 video cables don't work with the Plus/4 connected to either the front or rear jacks on the 1702. Is there a quick/easy fix for this problem? Bill B - San Antonio, Texas

At least here in Germany there's no difference between the C64 and the plus/4 video cables. The cables usually came with the monitors and you could use them with either a C64 or a plus/4.
I'm not 100% sure about NTSC machines but I guess it's the same.
So you don't get any "picture"? Or a black screen? The latter one might indicate a fried CPU (or a TED problem).
If you have a RF cable (and a suitable TV set) you could at least verify if the plus/4 is working.

Bill, I have no problems using a Plus/4 on 1702s all the way up to 2002s. You might double-check the cable on one of your C64s to make sure it doesn't have a loose connection in one of the plugs. If you need further help, let me know. -James in Kansas City

ditto....My Cable works fine on C64 and +4. (although the +4 has a much nicer image!)

Bill, C64 video cables (any and all I'm aware of) are all supposed to work with the Plus/4. The pin-out of the video connectors are identical (except for the very-very first C64s but that's a different story). Are you sure the computer is functional?

But as the first I would check Chicken's suggestion with the RF cable on a TV...
...but if this also does not function, you should try once the following:
Starts "blind" a disk!
So simply type LOAD"$",8 <RETURN> without a monitor/TV and observes what happens...
If the disk drive starts, perhaps it could be really the video cable.
But if nothing at all happens, you have another problem - most probably a defective TED (MOS 8360) or CPU (MOS 8501).

OUCH! I was so hoping that it was something as simple as a cable problem, but no such luck. I picked up two Plus/4 units, and both appear to have the same problem. My cables work fine with a C64 (I hooked up to the front and rear of a 1702, and then used the RF cable into a TV), but I get a black screen with red and green diagonal "noise" and no audio with either of the Plus/4s. No luck with the disk drive either. The drive powers up with both Plus/4s, but the LOAD attempt gets no response. Looks like I picked up a couiple of display units! Thanks for the help.

I must be cursed -- or are all the Plus/4's fried? I just picked up another one and I'm having the same problem. I guess my Commodore collection just won't have a working Plus/4 in it.

Bill, are you using the same power supply with all of these units? One bad power supply can fry any computer attached to it....
