  1) 1581's are great little drives for the +4, I've got a couple of them. The cheapest way to get one is in KIT form. Try here.... http://jppbm.com/ 2) Yeah, as far as Im aware, he's got years of back orders now and doesn't seem to want to deal with it. 4) I use my own - SNASM which you can get from http://minus4.plus4.net - I've written XeO3 in it. http://www.xeo3.org, and I keep adding stuff to it since I actively use it for developement myself.

4> My personal favorite is DASM (http://www.atari2600.org/DASM/), but AS65 is also good for starting.

  Hi!
  1) The plus/4 is compatible with every serial commodore compatible drive (1541, 1571, 1581, FD2000, etc) just like the C64 2) I don't know. As I heard Maurice is not so reliably so I don't know if you ever get an FD-2000 from him. 3) If the laptop has a parallel printer port then most probably you can use the XA1541 cable. 4) There are some, I cannot recommend you any of them because I've never tried them. Look at the Tools page in the menu. 5) C=+C enters you in command mode. Application switch commands: tc: spreadsheet; tw: word processor; tf: database; gr: graph maker (only available from spreadsheet)

  |   Hardware compatability question...
I'm new here... I've been playing around with +4 emulation for a couple of days and finally made the decision to get the real deal. I just have a couple of questions for the +4 gurus out there...
1> How compatible is the +4 with a 1581 or FD2000 drive, or am I stuck with 1541's? 2> Is the 2 month wait for an FD2000 worth the investment? 3> Can I use an XA1541 cable (planning on a 1541 of course) suitable with a P-4 laptop? I'm just curious as there seem to be a lot of options for one of those cables. 4> What assembler/compilers would you recommend? 5> How do I get to the other build in programs? I can only access the textpad...uh... I mean "word processor"...
