Re: Video Meanies Title theme covered on Spectrum

Anyhow, it is a cool tune especially for the 1 bit "buzzer" ZX Spectrum has.
The picture is also quite nice, knowing all the ZX limitations.

Re: Video Meanies Title theme covered on Spectrum

Basically, the Spectrum version of Rollaround just used the game design from Tony Kelly's C64 original - he had nothing to do with the code or anything on the Spectrum, AFAIK.

The most likely explanation is that Steve Parys was one of the coders working for Mr Chip at the time (he also did the Spectrum conversion of Lazerwheel too) and maybe just heard the tune running on the C16 or Plus/4, and thought to do a version of it? The Amstrad CPC version of Rollaround has the same title theme as the C64 one, so even more curious why the Spectrum one was so different.

Yeah, that's the same tune - fascinating happy Could it be a cover of something? Or is it simply the case that Tony Kelly reused the melody?

Video Meanies Title theme covered on Spectrum

Good evening,

So I was comparing the versions of Tony Kelly's game Rollaround (the C64 one being the original) and when I checked out the Spectrum version of that game, a very familiar tune played - yes, a version of the title theme from Video Meanies.

Check it out for yourselves, and interesting trivia nonetheless:
