I think you don't understand the difference between hardware and software.

The functions are hardwired into the chips, so if you want to use VIC-II functions then you have to put a VIC-II into your computer.

There are no routines that you can map, only registers that can control the behaviour of the chip.

I posted this on c.s.c also, but wanted to ask the question here as well:

How hard would it be to add hardware sprites to the Plus/4? Can this be done by simply mapping the VIC-II routines to unused addresses in the TED, and then writing a software patch to BASIC 3.5 to support it?

A few EPROMs might do the job. Maybe in a cartridge?
