| Description | Firefighter
Example Commodore BASIC game for preic BASIC pre-processor.
For source code and details about this example please have a look at preic project.
This program is working on both Commodore 64 and Commodore 16, 116 and Plus/4.
How to play
The program implements the well known bomber gameplay.
The goal is to put out the fire using water bombs before your chopper hits the flames. Your chopper is descending every round, getting closer and closer to the fire. Some tactical bombing is needed sometimes to take out the large flames as early as possible.
Anyway, not exactly a complicated game and since BASIC is pretty slow not too challenging either.
You get 1 point for each block of fire you put out and lose 5 points for dropping a water bomb. So, if you could put out the fire using less bombs then your final score will be higher.
When the fire is cleared then your chopper is getting a little bit faster for the next round.
Bit of trivia
This game was one of the first ones I ever played with on a HT-1080Z computer back in in the '80s.
When I was coming home from the uni my little brother, who was 2-3 years old at that time chewed my ear off to make a game on his Commodore 64. He didn't have anything to play with because the datassette (tape recorder) for that machine was broken. So, I sat down and quickly created one of the classic games from my memory, like this bomber, chasing a mouse in a randomly generated maze or motorbiking on a road that was getting narrower. He was playing with the game for a little while then asked for a new one. I turned off the machine, so the game was lost immediately then typed in a new one.
