There is a smoother table, which can be used if you trick the TED. 
I guess it was originally invented by Doky (...or TCFS, he may know the right answer for this). 
 
First, the TED soundgenerators must be initialized. 
 
$ff0e: $fd 
$ff0f: $fe 
$ff10,$ff12 bit0,1,: both high 
 
then, this was the table in my conv (all in hex): 
 
10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 
18 24 25 95 26 96 27 97 
28 98 35 b4 36 36 b5 b5 
37 37 b6 b6 38 38 b7 b7 
 
As you may have noticed, it sounded quite well. However, I don't know if the table values rise in a true linear way.
