It could be that the HTTP server sends a wrong Content-Type header for the files, e.g. "Content-Type: text/plain". In that case Netscape will show the file on the screen by default. Even worse, the Windows version of Netscape 3 (and maybe others) will always mangle such files with LF->CR+LF conversion, no matter how you try to save the file. With Lynx or with the X11 version of Netscape there aren't any such problems.
