The best one in RedHat.. the new RPM package manager makes installation simple. I've been using Linux on and off for years.. I never found anything to really do on in..

Linux has an X-Window system on it.. so any X-Window programming book will do.

I've not done coding much either but it is on my list of to-do things.
I have a 1/2 done BeOS version as well.. The only big problem with Linux is its lack of full screen modes... I guess you could use openGL or Glide...

Theres a good few books out about linux programming now.. I have a few of them, but Linux comes with good docs anyway...

I have a video class in Minus4w that I use on DDraw and BeOS, that I'll rewrite to Linux as well. Once its done, I'll send a copy if you like, then all youd need is sound support on Linux.. which I've never even looked at! :-)
