I haven't programmed linux neither, I just use it every day :) I can give you some URL's where you can find a lot of docs about everything you need (e.g. www.linuxlinks.com). Linux is free and the docs too
;) I can also help you in the basics of linux (installing, filesystem,
etc.) And you can have a look at the source of VICE, it works perfectly on linux. (CROWN, don't say anyhing ;) All you need is the internet...
The interface should be GTK (www.gtk.org) or KDE (www.kde.org), these are the most popular ones.
