Hi guys, Zsolt's letter was noticed and forwarded to me by Nicolas Welte,
one of the guys behind the XE1541 extended cable.

Zsolt, please, be aware that we had real problems with the XE1541 extended cable on ASUS P5A motherboards and certain laptops. As fasr as we can tell, the power output on the parallel port of these motherboards is so low that only PC peripherals work on it, Commodores don't. The result is a bit similar to when you whisper to a person who can't hear very well anyway...

Nicolas Welte and Michael Klein (the author of CBM4Linux, a new transfer program for PC+Linux and 1541 drives) are now working on an even better,
active cable that, hopefully, will need _no_ external power supply, still will be able to overcome even the above mentioned difficulties. Instead of the quite-hard-to-find and, relatively, also expensive Schottky-diodes,
the new cable will contain a resistor and a transistor for each of the four lines (ATN, CLK, DATA and RESET). The price of these parts is a bit lower than that of the Schottky-diodes but the cable will be harder to build.

As soon as the specification is finished, I'll ask Mr.Axel to start building these cables and so my X1541 Shop will start selling them. Also,
the next (beta) release of CBM4Linux and The Star Commander will support this cable. I suggest that you also think of supporting this cable in WinEMU.

Make sure you visit comp.emulators.cbm often and pick up the announcement when it comes out. Happy transferring, :-)
