 Making Disk Images

Hi!

Having downloaded many plus4 & c64 games as disk images, i now ask myself how you can make your own disk images from your old disks.

I read about the program "star commander" and how to build or buy a cable to connect your 1541 to the PC, but is this the only possibility?

What about the old 5.25" drives for the PC? Is there no possibility that you could make a disk image with that? Is there a program for that?

But maybe, since I could not find anything like that, it's impossible.

Thanks for your answers

Ben

 Re: Making Disk Images

PC drives don't speak the same language as Commodore 1541s. The differences are too great to try to adapt a PC drive to work.

Star Commander and an X1541 series cable really are the cheapest and simplest way to get those images back onto real disks. 64HDD software is also compatiable with some of those cables, as well as CBM4xxx software (Linux and Windows variants), but you still need one of the X1541 cables to connect your Commodore drive to the PC.

Be informed that if you have a PC using Win2000 or XP, probably the 1541 cable does not work, because of the new parallel ports of the recent PCs.
In these cases the lone chance is to use the new Cbm4win software (under development, but still available in version 1.0) with the XA1541 cable.
