 |  I have the same problem.
With my 1541 using an XE1541 cable.
I use Starcommander 0.81
To be honest I had problems getting anything to work at first. I put it down to my PC and the way it handles DOS. When I copyed over to PC whole disks they all had errors on. So I had to copy 1 file at a time to D64.
I had problems getting mtap to work as well. I have to use a Win boot disk and then run mtap. It won't run from shutting down to DOS on my machine..
So I blame my PC. Time is short to look into it. I have them working which is the most important part for me even if it's long winded.
