The controls are very much hardcoded into the game, Port 2 for Player 1, and keyboard for Player 2. If there's a two joy version out there (which I doubt), it's a hack by someone from the scene. It IS possible to hack the game, like this:
>1B43 01 A2 FB
>1B5A 02 A2 FB
>1B71 04 A2 FB
>1B88 08
>2AA3 40 A2 FB
Now Player two is controlled by Port 1. Cool, huh? 
About the map: why don't you re-create it in PhotoShop or some other graphics editing program? I'm sure we could find a good home for THAT here on Plus/4 World...
