 Retro Gamer Issue Three..

Issue 3 takes a look into the history of the Acorn range of microcomputers..

The theme for the Cover Disk this issue is Gremlin Graphics or Gremlin's Greatest Hits as they have called it. Looking at the content of the CD we became a valuable resorce. They added every known C16/Plus4 Gremlin game we have here in TAP format. They also borrowed a couple of scans from Gremlin's C16/Plus4 range such as Auf Wiedersehen Monty, (The C16/Plus4 cover covers all versions wink).

They also offer some C16/Plus4 emulators and this made me frown!! NO Yape was to be found in the C16/Plus4 emu folder grrrrrrr! They offer Artifex, Minus4w and WinVice for all the readers C16/Plus4 needs??? Knowing Yape is and was the mother emu for all things TAP I find this a little upsetting not to see her on the disk!

Fantastic set of mags that is "Retro Gamer" I'm quite chuffed to own the first edition for which I bought off Ebay for £4. You can now buy that particular issue on Ebay for £30 per auction.

Stilll on next month's edition is a cd of some C64 music. Not quite Plus/4 but Commodore all the way.

Yeah the mag is cool, shame they missed out Yape! I joined their forum and posted a small note, hope they get the idea. wink

They took the piss with issue one and I believe they should re-run it! 40,000 copys?? They never really made an effort to get the mag wipe spread and only issue 2 did it enter the big retial shops such as GAME! No happy esp when it was Mastertroni related.

 Re: Retro Gamer Issue Three..

Trouble is they were testing the water at first. There hasn't really been any retro gaming magazines to date of worthy mention except for the Edge Retro spin off titles and those were just back copies of Edge rolled into special editions.

I couldn't find the magazine at all when it came out and had to resort to Ebay. Thankfully I did at the time considering the auction prices. One good thing that came out of the popularity of the first issue is the frequency date of each issue.

Originally the mag was due to come out every three months by issue 2 that was increased to every other month and now on issue 3 it's now every 6 weeks.

There was a cracking quote on the Retro gamer forum from one of the mag's staff members and said something along the lines of "had I known the magazine was going to be this popular and getting £30 for each magazine on Ebay, we would have stop the distrubtion of the magazine and headed to Ebay!"

That last quote isn't funny! grrrrrrr wink

That has to be the biggest mistake in the history of mistakes! Most mags go over the top with issue one and have a shelf life of atleast 2 months...

Anything of intrest regarding Plus4 in issue 1? Mastertronic wasn't it and we know how much they loved C16/Plus4 wink

Lando, you're going to grrr even more when you read this. My local shopping centre's newsagent had somehow managed to score a copy of issue 1, which is now happily ensconced in my possession (I bought it 2 weeks ago). I live in a middle Melbourne suburb, and this newsagent isn't anything special, doesn't carry specialist magazines, and you can imagine my surprise when I saw it there.

It was snapped up on the spot!
When I get time, I'll scan the Mastertronic article for you.

Lando, when they added all the TAP files, did they at least acknowledge +4 World?

 Re: Retro Gamer Issue Three..

Mosh,

No they did'nt, but....

Be proud knowing that what we've all done together over the last good number of years has been noticed and put to good use regardless of acknowledgement. wink

We had a printed link in issue 2 anyway. The Plus4 emu's they added on the CD issue 3 will point people around the Plus4 scene or should do. wink

You lucky son of a gun! 1 of 40,000 copys made its way down under WOW!
