I don't see any adjustment options for this in 1551. I think this drive was never factory-fitted with ALPS mechanics, so it's difficult to find any experience of this kind.
But I don't know how significant that is. I have installed "alien" mechanics into 1551 (and 1541) on several occasions, and so far I have not experienced any problems with them. (Of course, this conclusion cannot be traced back to scientifically based measurements.  ) However, it is also true that in each case I replaced the D500 with a "more modern" version, not an older one.
