I use cc65. It is a good C compiler, and, while it comes pretty inefficient, I was able to make it much more efficient. Try Googling "cc65 compiler." I have a lot of cc65 enhancements, including cartridge and Hannes memory configs for the Plus4, at https://sourceforge.net/projects/cc65extra/files/. Does this help?
