 Re: Rockman - Game Review

No where on the cover or cassette does it state Plus/4, we just assumed it would work. grin

Commomdore (UK) had stamped C16/Plus4 on most of the Plus/4 bundle games back in late 1985 and this was probably the first time people realised C16 & Plus/4 were compatible. Anyone that never got to play this on Plus/4 back in the day were unlucky.

People that played and enjoyed Fire Ant should of understood Rockman..., random moving enemies and that one step at a time or just run gameplay mechanics. The one rock that requires half dirt on the first screen you could argue is just an early leaning curve as half dirt comes in handy later on, 3rd screen to the right of the starting room.

And for anyone that has never completed it, it's the game that keeps on giving. grin

Loading issues and bad in-game music aside, Rockman to me is the perfect example of a superb 1st generation Mastertronic £1.99 C16 game, the gold standard even. Thought provoking gameplay, simple and quick arcade fun and something that will last longer than 10 minutes. Even the in-game music, possibly showing off at that point in time was an achievement.
You only need to play Magic Carpet and Sub Hunt on C64 to see how basic Mastertronic games were at that time and with 12k Rockman offered a lot more depth. If you try to forget Icicle Works exists as that was the case for C16 users then Rockman filled that Boulder Dash itch. wink
