BTW when I read about the different C64 modems, there were one that was built around the 6551 (maybe it was the fastest ever made for C64 and C128, I do not remember the name). There was a long story about the development steps (and a lot of stories), and it was highlighjted, tthat 6551 gives you the option to use external oscillator, so you can significantly further increase the baud rate.
