WOW! Very nice read! Did you also try out KickC? I think it's done by Camelot, and these guys usually know what they do (on a 6502). I hope this extension later goes into the standard SD2IEC kernel distributions.. Crazy that you try to do such stuff.. Big respect for that! 
edit: ah sorry it's no 6502 c compiler! :D Maybe there is some better one out there, though.. llvm (clang) with the right backend usually gives good results currently I think..
edit2: there is an AVR backend for llvm.. https://llvm.org/doxygen/md_lib_Target_AVR_README.html.. But actually I have no clue on what I am writing or if this is the processor you target with this awesome stuff... :)
