 SD2IEC - what to buy?

I just purchased a refurbished & working Plussy. It was so sentimental after 35 years, believe me wink.

Now I am going to get an SD2IEC. What would you recommend me?
- What type?
- What manufacturer/vendor?
- Any links/URLs?

Many thanks!

An internal SD2IEC Classic from "The Future was 8bit": https://www.thefuturewas8bit.com/shop/commodore/ted/sd2iec-classic.html

I have one in my C16. I followed these instructions (roughly) to install it: http://web.archive.org/web/20191207105428/http://blog.tynemouthsoftware.co.uk/2018/11/commodore-16-internal-sd2iec-sd-card-disk-drive.html

Thanks @Spektro.

Will go for the external one (C16/Plus4 Style Black Case SD2IEC+) with user port supplied power.
Do you know it can be easily switched to device #9? I will be connecting a VC1551 floppy as device #8.

Re: SD2IEC - what to buy?

According to the shop page device number can be changed with DOS commands - which is unfortunate because plus/4 kernal always tries 1551 first. It seems that device number switches/pads are not included in this design.
You can still change your 1551 to #9 then your SD2IEC to #10 and 1551 back to drive #8 but to do this after every power cycle is a bit... inconvenient.

But you should ask the seller before purchase or choose a different design.

Re: SD2IEC - what to buy?

Yes, I could switch 1551 to #9 and keep SD2IEC as #8, and copy full disks with Dracopy Plus4

Or possibly, it could be supported as follows:
SD2IEC command reference

Changing the Device Address
By default the SD2IEC is set to be drive number 8. But like its vintage counterpart you can change this to 9, 10 or 11 using the following command:

// change from drive 8 to drive 9
OPEN 15,8,15
PRINT#15,“U0>"+CHR$(9)
CLOSE 15

Replace the CHR$ value with the desired drive number. Just like a real 1541 drive, the SD2IEC will not remember this change upon reset. You can however save the above to its internal EEPROM which will survive subsequent reboots:

// save drive number to EEPROM
OPEN 15,9,15
PRINT#15,“XW"
CLOSE 15

Replace 9 with your actual drive number.
