Re: How to install or run games on the Plus4

Hi,

There's no such thing as installing programs on a Plus/4. You have to acquire a storage device for the machine before running any programs. Based on what device you get, there are ways to transfer software to the appropriate medium. You should also get the user manual for the computer and learn how to use it, especially how to load programs.

The easiest way is buying and using an SD2IEC device. These use SD cards to which you simply copy the image files and the device enables loading them. Please refer to the manual of the SD2IEC device how to achieve this.

Next would be a floppy disk drive with disks. It is harder and more expensive. For this to work, you need an additional adapter cable that let you connect these drives to PCs and transfer software. Best option is buying a 1541-II drive with DSDD disks. You can find some on eBay or other such sites. Then you need the cable and some software to transfer data. For cables you may want to buy an XM1541 or similar cable, or a ZoomFloppy interface. OpenCBM would be the recommended software for the Xwhatever1541 cable; for ZoomFloppy you should refer to the manual.

Most hardcore solution is buying a Datasette (1531) and some tapes or a replacement device like DC2N, but unfortunately I can't give you much advice about them.
