Yes, it's possible to add loader support for SD2IEC. For example for Bitfire you will have to add a separate plus/4 version as it has a different drivecode (SD2IEC download generates a checksum of the installed drive code and selects the appropriate protocol based on that). Sure, it's definitely doable.
But I would suggest to wait for a feature complete, stable version of Bitfire before doing that. And after releasing a new version of SD2IEC firmware you have to ensure that every user updates to that version.
