What Csabo written earlier may not be completely true. I have some hazy memory about a program I came across ages ago, that used the empty space in the TED register map as RAM. I don't know where the memory comes from or what the program was. I can be very wrong. Actually, somebody with access to a real machine should check it, if it's not too much work.
